Old School OSRS Trailblazer League

It’s that time of year again for fans of Old School OSRS to put their skills to the test. The Trailblazer League began on October 28th and will run until January 6th. That’s right, league play is back.  As players buy Old School OSRS accounts, they may notice that their accounts are only on the normal servers and not on the event servers. Now it is an annual event, so this might not be a big surprise, but hey its only the second year so we will count it as a small one. The prizes this year should be enticing to any fan so we thought that players would like a bit of help getting their hands on them. Below we detail the inner workings of the Trailblazer League and, for the veterans, we break down what has changed from last year.

For the uninitiated, the league is an event run on OSRS where players are restricted to a specific area, set on ironman mode, and are buffed in order to try and finish as many league tasks as they can.  As you may recall, in ironman mode, players are not able to interact with other players in any way.  This means that players can’t even purchase OSRS gold to get ahead and must progress on their own.   Players are awarded in league gameplay by relics that provide buffs for the duration. Some rewards will carry over from previous leagues, but the only thing that enters standard play is the cosmetic prizes that you are awarded based on your performance. All in all the concept for the Trailblazer League is pretty straight forward but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its fair share of strategy.

Planning around tasks is certainly something players can do ahead of time, but what the tasks will be is not completely revealed at this point. We do know the tasks will be unique and not repetitive since that goal of the league is to challenge players. We also know tasks will be divided into two groups, either region-specific or general and will vary greatly in difficulty. You can look into the beta testing for an idea of what the tasks may be but this is not a reliable scope of what the tasks end up being. So, check that out at your own risk. We think there are better ways to plan ahead of time with Trailblazer and we will talk about them below in a bit.

The changes from last year aren’t a lot but they are big changes by themselves. To begin, several changes including a new UI system and a new task separation system will make it easier to keep track of the areas you have access to (and what ones are blocked) as well as help you know what tasks you can complete in that area and how difficult they are. These aren’t huge changes in terms of how people will play but the small touches to make everything a little more streamlined will make league play feel that much more authentic and enjoyable.

Another big change is that included in the unlockable regions this year is the wilderness. That means PVP will be an active part of league play. If you aren’t a fan of how PVP works don’t worry too much. The PVP system being put in for league play is described as “safe PVP” where your battles will matter for league content but players will not lose any of the items they obtained. Considering the massive XP buff, and other new rewards, for league play we are pretty grateful for this addition. Other players are going to get powerful very quickly and we can use the assurance that we aren’t going to get our butt kicked over and over again. Or we will, we just won’t have to pay for it.

The final change between this year and last years league play is a biggie. For reaching certain tiers of league points you are awarded special passive buffs called relics. There are 6 tiers of relics and 3 relics at each tier for you to choose from, with the exception of the 4th tier that only has two since the third options proved too buggy in play-testing. Now, these relics vary too much to get extremely specific since each one of them does a lot and choosing is going to be tough since they all seem pretty appealing and can apply to a wide selection of different play styles. Each tier will also offer a passive buff that is the same for all relics on that tier.

Each relic tier does, however, share common themes, so we can give you a general idea about what to expect. Tier 1, you get this choice as soon as you finish the league tutorial, specifically offers relics that will boost your skill xp and growth. A fun addition considering your skill growth will already be up to 5X its normal speed, but this choice will allow you to make your rapid growth a little more focused. The passive buff for this tier is run energy will not drain while running. They really want you sprinting out of the gate this league, probably why they called it Trailblazer.

Tier 2, obtained when you reach 500 points, compounds this speed with its passive ability that turns the 5X skill xp buff to an 8X buff. You’ll then get to pick from three relics that all have teleportation abilities, helping you get to your tasks easier. You should aim to have many of the regions unlocked to maximize the utility of these relics.

Tier 3 is unlocked when you reach 2000 points. You’ll notice that the gaps between tiers are getting wider, that is something you’ll want to plan around. The relic for this tier will make your combat much faster as well as help you conserve combat resources like ammunition and ruins. The passive will also make certain items 2X as common.

Tier 4 only has two relics to choose from once you reach 4000 points. These relics abilities are focused on utility and increasing your chance of obtaining clue scrolls. The passive ability of these relics will also further increase your xp buff to 12X. You’ll really be racing at this point.

Tier 5 comes back around to focusing on skills again, and work well with the relics from tier 1, so it might be good to look ahead before you hit the necessary 7500 points. The passive ability for this rune also makes certain items 3x as common.

Lastly, we have tier 6, obtainable at a whopping 15000 points. The tier 6 relics contain extremely powerful combat buffs, helpful since the only tasks remaining for you will likely be high tier combat challenges. The last passive buff also pushes your xp boost all the way to 16X, so if there any skill you hadn’t hit the cap with yet, then you won’t have too much of a hard time now.

So if you want to really prove you are the sprinting Trailblazer that this League wants you to be. So make sure to think about your relic choices ahead of time and get those points as fast as you can. We don’t think it will take too long for someone to beat this finish this whole league, and, if you are fast enough, it could be you.  Should Accountwarehouse buy and sell OSRS accounts on the trailblazer league?  Let us know if you have any interest!
