Quick Update on
OSRS Mobile
A lot of
times when you see a fandom that is given two major options, you tend to see a
pretty quick division. When it comes to OSRS and Old School OSRS ,
though, we tend to see people just get excited. For instance, there were
recently two big announcements coming out of OSRS and we know that
everyone is super stoked about them, even if they prefer OSRS. We definitely
want to talk about them, and we have absolutely nothing stopping us.
Firstly, we
have the newest addition to the questline involving the Varrock dig site. The
mystery is finally uncovered as players will now get to dive into the City of
Sennisten. You are tasked with fortifying the city against an assault from the
Elder Gods. In order to participate in this quest, you do need some fairly high
stats. You will need a 74 in archaeology, something you most likely would have
had long before you had gotten to this point in this specific quest. You also
need 74 in magic, which is no mean feat. The 75 slayer skill is really the hard
part of it, but we are sure that meeting these minimum requirements will be the
least of your worries when you begin this quest. You also need to have already
completed Azzanadra's Quest and Battle of the Monolith, but that’s probably a
given if you are knocking on Sennisten’s front door.
A quick tip,
people who have played through this rather lengthy quest do recommend you start
with the Archaeology Journal and the Invitation Box. The Archaeology Journal
will be useful for teleporting to the Archaeology guild since that’s such a
heavily used skill in this particular set of quests. The Invitation Box will
make it so you can also quickly travel to other places useful to this quest,
namely hubs of religious activity.
In order to
begin your adventure into Sennisten, you will need to speak to Ariane by the
Heart of Gielinor. She will be happy to see you after your involvement in the
previous quest and will get you up to date on all that has happened since. From
there you will get to explore the four drastically different wards of the lost
city of Sennisten and fight powerful looming evils. A regular weekday for those
who’ve been around the block in OSRS but that doesn’t make it any less
fun.
The other big
announcement is the final release of OSRS mobile. Seeing a major MMO come
out with a mobile release app isn’t too surprising anymore. What is surprising
is when it is a fully-functional version of their PC game for phone and tablet.
Seriously, you can play the same account you have on your PC on your phone,
thats super wild.
Some people
are seeing this as an opportunity to play their favorite game while on the go,
or simply as a chance to get away from their computer. There are even some
official tips on how to maximize your FPS and battery life while playing on
your phone. But that isn’t the only potential here. Some players have seen a
linked mobile account as a chance to maximize their character’s potential.
See, mobile
isn’t a reduced version of the game, but it does have more limited controls due
to the nature of the tech. You might not be inclined to play on a smaller
screen or rely on touch controls for the important stuff, but you can use your
phone to grind for gold and resource during your downtime. Several strategy
guides have been released by prominent players explaining the best ways to make
money exclusively on the mobile platform.
That’s not
your only incentive for connecting a mobile device to your account. By adding
mobile play players also unlock a bunch of special rewards. The soft punk
hairstyle. Magical leap teleportation device, crux eqal sword, Scales animated
pet, and crux eqal armor are all made available just by registering a mobile
version of the game. That isn’t all, we actually think the last thing is best.
You get a week-long 50% experience boost for registering too. That's right,
regardless of how you choose to play, PC or phone, you will earn 50% additional
XP for one whole week. That right there is worth as much as everything else put
together.
Now, this is
just the first full launch, and updates for the mobile app are, and will likely
keep, rolling out for as long as it sees play. The beta players will get to
keep everything, obviously since the account is connected, but all the reviews
posted on mobile for the beta version are being reset for the full launch. The
developers are encouraging people to leave reviews again and are thankful for
all the feedback, which is nice to see.
Considering
how long the mobile version of OSRS has been in beta, this is likely not
to have a drastic impact on balance or gameplay. Most people who wanted to use
this to mechanically enhance their experience between two formats have been
able to do so for a while now. Seeing the mobile version be officially promoted
and integrated, though, might see some additional rewards outside the
registration gifts. In the future, we might even see special events that
integrate the mobile and PC versions differently and offer specialty
cross-platform quests and the like. There is a lot of potentials and we are
excited to see how the developers utilize this new way of delivering fun
gameplay.
So there you
have some of the newest changes coming to the OSRS lore and gameplay. A
lot of exciting changes in the works with even cooler stuff a possibility on
the horizon. We are always super excited to see what the developers have in
store for OSRS since the team is often dedicated to improving gameplay and
making fun features for all players to enjoy. We think checking out the mobile
option, if just for the short-term perks, is a smart move for anyone
invested. You don’t have to jump into
OSRS Mobile with a fresh account, as there’s always the option to buy OSRS accounts from this website.
